First of all, you start out by purchasing leotards, tights and ballet shoes. Once you are correctly dressed, the instructor will start teaching you how to correctly do the following things below:

You should expect to do a lot of stretching exercises on the floor and at the barre to help loosen and stretch all of your muscles, so make sure you have very comfortable ballet shoes. Then you start learning individual ballet steps, starting with the basic positions of the feet and hands. You will also be taught how to hold your head, keep your toes pointed, how to "spot an object" when you learn pirouettes and turns, keep your shoulders down and so forth. If you continue taking ballet "en pointe" (in toe shoes) you will correctly learn how to do all the footwork and ballet steps you learned how to do in ballet shoes, but not all people stick with ballet that long. After you have learned all of the steps and movements, (usually done to classical music, but perhaps not at first), you will learn complete ballet routines (dances). There are a few things that can be done "en pointe" that are difficult or impossible to do in ballet shoes. But if you are disciplined and listen to your ballet master or mistress, you will enjoy learning the gracefulness of ballet. It is almost like floating on air to those that have had many years and love ballet. I practiced at my dance studio at least three to four days a week, in order to stay limber (flexible). We had a pianist that played classical music while we worked out, but some smaller dance schools will use classical records or cd's for you to practice to, so you will learn to keep tempo (time) to the music. If you are planning on making a career out of ballet, you will have to practice many long, dedicated hours, probably six days a week, for many years. A good ballerina has to work very hard to be graceful and light on her feet. Ballet training can also help you with other things, as well, such as becoming a member of a high school drill (dance) team or ice-skating lessons. OH! And never talk in class, unless you raise your hand to ask your teacher a question. Ballet is a form of discipline. I hope this helps give you a little insight as to what you may expect from many ballet studios. Good luck to you! :)

wow... i'm really proud of you! ballet is not something that most people are interested in. anyway, since the other details some of the specific movements you will be doing, i'll go into the emotional side of it. be prepared for hard work! if you have never taken a ballet class you may become discouraged because the steps are hard... never give up! also, if ballet isn't hard, you are not working. thats the ballet dancers maxim, if it isn't hard you're not working, if it doesn't hurt, you're not stretching. Make sure that you don't take it personally when a teacher corrects you, they don't want to hurt your feelings and they don't dislike you personally but they are trying to make you a better dancer. I highly reccomend buying one of the ballet bibles, Classical Ballet Technique by Gretchen Warren, The Ballet Book: Learning and Appreciating the Secrets of Dance by Nancy Ellison and Hanna Rubin , or The Joffrey Ballet School's Ballet-Fit by Dena Simone Moss and Allison Kyle Leopold. Classical Ballet Technique is one of the classic ballet books, the one that teachers are forever refering to. The Ballet Book is not as helpful but may aid you in understanding what you are aiming for. The Joffery Ballet School's book is helpful for anyone taking their first ballet classes who has an adult reading level and pysique. Don't try any of the steps in these books but do read them all the way through. (ok, ok not all the way through but dont just skim them prior to your first class.) your teacher can reccomend other books later on. I also reccomend getting in pretty good physical shape if you plan on taking more than three classes a week, ballet is VERY strenous when properly performed. Anyway, you are an awsome person and i am really proud of you!
the basic steps like 1st position 2nd postition ect...i took ballet when i was 6 and i didnt like it (but thats just me) now im 13 and have been dancing for 7 years now im in advanced jazz and advanced tap.
Well, expect GOOD things. Think Positive always. well, i just started ballet 2 days ago in the medium hard class. The stretching and the footing was fine. But then came the dancing part lol. DUN DUN DUNNNNN.... You should also buy the right ballet shoes. Not the pointes. The ones that you can stand on your toe with. And pink tights with a balck or pink leotard with or without skirt attached. I perfer no skirt attached, they rip. Anways, you can expect something way out of ur league. All ya need is confidence, and you can dance. You will also learn postitions 1, 2, 3 ,4 ,5 , 6 etc. I haven't learned them, because my teacher expects us to kno w it already.Stretch a lot too. Trust me the first time im like 'when's the next class??" I do it 2x a week Weds. and Sat. I was gonna do monday but i decided not too. GTG now i have yoga!!! ( that helps with ballet)
i dont know what grade you do, but generally you start with barre work then centrework then a curtsy
well usually the first thing you do in ballet is barre work which is just excersices at the barre that imclude things like tendu frappe rond de jambe etc then you will move into the center maybe do some petit allegro or an adage(mispelled i kno)

then you will do a reverance(bow or curtsy to the teacher and painist)
