Could I become competent at ballet at this age?

I would love to learn ballet and am 22. Obviously there is no way I could be a professional, but could I become a competent dancer? I haven't taken any type of dance lessons before but I have taught myself the basics of a few types of dance (doesn't mean I'm any good though!!) but I'm not particularly fit (certainly not unfit but not flexible etc). With enough practise and a good class is it possible that I could become a reasonable dancer (for fitness and enjoyment, not performance) or is it too late?

You should definitely try ballet, it's not too late!!! If you really love it, you could take classes and practice at home and become quite good. My friend started ballet when she was 16, and now at 18 she competes.

Just commit yourself to stretching every day (for flexibility) and to practising, and you will get the hang of it.

Ballet is great for the body, so I do recommend you try it. It can keep you fit without having to run or do pushups, and can allow yourself to express yourself through movement. Also, because it is an exercise, you will realease endorphins and feel happier, and because it is stretching, you will realease toxins from your muscles and be able to fight illnesses better, and feel clean and loose.

Go for it! I'm 24 and have considered it. It's never too late to pursue a dream!!!!
sure why not?! go into plays! its toe thats really hard! where you have to put the wood block in your shoes to make it look like your on your toes. but ballet you could definitely do!
If you want to try it, try it. If you don't like it, just quit =)
It鈥檚 definitely not too late to become competent, confident and even to perform. I have seen it with my own eyes over and over again. I include pointe work as well. It will depend, however, on the same factors that apply to anyone; your natural physical gifts, your dedication and time commitment and the expertise of your teachers. I recommend this book; Classical Ballet Technique by Gretchen Warren. If fact, I recommend it to EVERYONE interested in classical ballet. The images in particular are invaluable, the terminology is precise and you will refer to it constantly. Good luck, don鈥檛 push too hard鈥?it does take time measured in years, not months.
i would suggest taking adult classes. many studios have them! its really fun apparantly. lol. i got my mom to take it and she loved it and actually got really good. they have age groups at my studio like 20-30, 30-40 and 50 and up. it would be a lot of fun if you work at it. its not too late!
YES! You certainly can. Actually, there is a woman at the studio I dance at who began dancing in her 70's and, though she isn't the most common dancer, she is amazing at it! So at 22? Learning to dance ballet, even without experience, should be relatively easy with a bit of effort.
dont sell your self short .....you can always becoem MORE then competatn...if its your passion do it even as hobby by your slef or freinds or comunity theart

I no nothing about profeessional ballet and whathte age rangeis but if you are good dont let your own thinking stop you form at least trying out a few times
